An associate of Chechnya’s Kremlin-backed leader Ramzan Kadyrov was involved in the murder of Boris Nemtsov, a Russian court has heard, in a twist to the investigation that raises as many questions as it answers.
Zaur Dadayev, a Chechen, was one of five men to appear in a Moscow courtroom on Sunday, all from Russia’s north Caucasus region.
“Dadayev’s involvement in committing this crime is confirmed by, apart from his own confession, the totality of evidence gathered as part of this criminal case,” said Judge Natalia Mushnikova.
Dadayev raised his index finger in the courtroom, a common Islamist sign, and said “I love the prophet Mohammed”, according to reporters present.
“I knew Zaur as a genuine Russian patriot,” the Chechen leader wrote on his Instagram page on Sunday evening, confirming that Dadayev had served in one of his battalions. “He was the deputy commander of the battalion, and one of the most fearless and courageous soldiers of the regiment.”

Yes, I had seen this too about Kadyrov and the speculation he has cast on the possible motive.

Either way these men aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so we will have time to know the real motives and methods behind this.

For now my interest is on the man with the alibi. I had seen on TV, but not in any articles yet, that he is claiming he was at work at the time of the attack.

The rapid awarding of Ramzan Kadyrov with the Medal of Honor is a clear demonstration of trust. By itself, the Medal of Honor is the type, when you need a reward, but there is no specific reason. Under the Statute it is awarded for top achievements in different areas of life. When a piece of paper is not enough, but something more serious is too much.

Most likely, the award is a response to the arrests in the case of Nemtsov. The indication that the killers are private individuals and the President does not see any politics. Therefore there will be no conclusions about Kadyrov.

The killers and intermediaries are associated with security forces of Chechnya, which cast a shadow on Kadyrov (please see our earlier posts). An opinion was floated earlier about Nemtsov's pro-Charlie Ebdo position and the murder being a revenge based on religious motives. Some believe that no matter the reason, the killers and intermediaries did not realize that the purpose was to set up Kadyrov and cause a rift between him and Putin, as he is one of Putin's strongest supporters and a pillar of peace in Chechnya. This is why El Murid thinks the award goes to show that those attempts will not succeed.
My opinion: if Putin wanted to kill Nemtsov, then why would Putin's investigation disclose a trail directly to one of Putin's closest friends, Kadyrov? Or why would Kadyrov leave a trail to himself? Since we can only guess about the information which is available to Putin, the award in itself is a confirmation that Kadyrov's reputation could have been a target , and the award is a signal.
But, expectedly, we should hear from the anti-Putin media that "Putin rewarded Kadyrov for Nemtsov's murder."

Why is that interesting?

I think because the Nemtsov murder is likely (in my opinion) a strategic push to strengthen a Maiden movement in Russia for the purpose of toppling Vladimir Putin.

The situation in Ukraine has clearly not gone according to the U.S. plan. The UAF (Ukranian Armed Forces) have been soundly defeated ever since the militias of Donbass were able to reorganise in July last year and have since been able to defend their positions and even push the UAF back to a more strategic frontline via the use of the counterattacks which have produced encirclements (Illovaisk and Debaltseve), encirclements which serve to not only provide the NAF (Novorossian Armed Forces) with equipment, vehicles and ammunition, but also serve to ruin morale in the UAF.

Russia has been able to provide assistance to Novorossia via indirect means (loose control of the border, blind eye to military equipment and ammunition, allowing/encouraging volunteers, allow existence of a support network not directly tied to the Kremin organised by hardline nationalists) which allow for a plausible deniability because if they were to directly invade them it would serve to provide the pretext for an increase in direct western support (ie. NATO troops on the ground).

I think the U.S. is realising that the problem with sending direct support to Ukraine is that Russia will just respond in kind and such escalation can only lead to nuclear war if it is to continue, which is something no one wants (which is why Russia has been constantly warning the west about a nuclear war they don't want - note these warnings are seldom broadcast by the western media).

Thus the murder of Nemtsov may very be a ploy utilised as an effective work around to the brick wall U.S. has found to exist in Ukraine. Ukraine is currently a mess, 200% plus inflation (almost hyper inflation), unrepayable IMF loans, radical nationalist dissent against the Kiev government, growing dissent in the military against Poroshenko over pay and instability in the country.

Had not heard about Kadyrov being given a medal for this.

Me thinks though Kadyrov's theory of motive is worth considerring. Islam is against Russia and that is no secret. Whether this is due to Charlie Hebdo or not is another matter. We will have to see though.

I'm an apologist for Christ but they caught five of the guys that did it and Putin's government is prosecuting them for first degree murder in Russia. The sixth one blew himself up instead of being taken alive.

All of the suspects are hard core Chechnya Muslims and the motive was that their opposition target had been a strong critic of Chechnya independence and Islam in general.
